Your staff are your most vital asset. They see to your company’s day-to-day activities, freeing you up to focus on expansion and upgrading your business. But are your staff working to the best of their abilities? Have you done enough to motivate your team in order to ensure that they are happy, valued, and fulfilled? The happier in the job a member of staff is, the more productive they become. They are able to cope with stress better and find workarounds for things that go wrong more easily. An unhappy member of staff will focus on the negative, take their time over tasks, and may, worse of all, be a drain on the rest of the team. Here are a few things to think about when trying to get the most out of your staff:

Culture of Communication

The best way to keep on top of things is to ensure that you keep the lines of communication open. If your business is small enough, get on first name terms with your employees. Make sure they feel they can air any issues as and when they occur. Keep your staff in the know about how the business is running and inform them of any changes you have in the pipeline. Maybe you could host weekly or monthly team meetings or discussions. Ask for feedback from the staff and listen to all points raised. Additionally, have one to one sessions where you can garner information on an individual basis. You can talk about how they are feeling, how they find the job, their weakness and strengths, and create individual progress plans. If staff feel as if they matter, they are more likely to feel like they want to do a good job.
