The Story Behind the Hotel
The story of Hotel das Amoreiras Lisbon begins in 2016, when Pedro — after more than twenty years in international banking, working across London, Geneva and Madrid — spotted the first townhouse on Praça das Amoreiras.
He found the adjacent one in 2017. The plan: join them and create something small but grand. Together with his wife Alicia and their three children, he personally oversaw every detail — selecting furniture, finishes and fabrics exclusively for the hotel, drawing on the aesthetic intelligence accumulated across decades in four of Europe’s most demanding cities.
“We personally took care of every single detail,” he writes. “Reflecting the influences of the years lived in London, Geneva, Madrid, and of course Lisbon — my hometown.”
In September 2022, after a complete refurbishment, Hotel das Amoreiras Lisbon opened its doors. Seventeen rooms and two attic suites. No two the same.
The story matters because it is entirely legible in the building. This is not a property assembled by a hospitality group running financial models. Every room, every chair, every lamp was personally chosen by the people who built it. That difference registers on arrival and does not leave.

No buffet. No queue. No pressure to be somewhere. You sit at a dark lacquered table with a vintage lamp casting warm light across the room — ротанговые стулья, a view through to the courtyard garden, the square beyond — and you choose what you want. A cappuccino that arrives correctly. Fresh fruit that has been considered, not assembled. Bread from local bakers. Jams in small ceramic pots.

The bar operates through the day and into the evening — in the dining room and out into the courtyard. Wine, cocktails, a seasonal light menu. All local. The courtyard, an enclosed garden that Lisbon’s older buildings tend to keep hidden from the street, gives these moments a quality that a standard hotel bar cannot manufacture.
This is not the hotel at which you hold a conference. It is the hotel at which you stay when the work is done well enough that where you sleep and what you see in the morning can be allowed to matter.
The Neighbourhood: Why This Address Is Irreplaceable
Hotel das Amoreiras Lisbon is the only hotel in Jardim das Amoreiras. No other hotel can make that statement. No new hotel ever will.
The square dates to the eighteenth century, when the Marquis of Pombal — the statesman who rebuilt Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake — planted the first mulberry trees here. Amoreira in Portuguese: the mulberry, central to the city’s silk trade. The square became one of Lisbon’s most exclusive residential addresses and has held that distinction for three centuries.
The hotel stands directly across from the Águas Livres Aqueduct — the eighteenth-century engineering structure that brought clean water to Lisbon and remains one of the city’s most startling pieces of infrastructure. Inside one of its stone arches sits the Chapel of Our Lady of Monserrate, built directly into the aqueduct.
Two museums flank the square: the Arpad Szenes–Vieira da Silva Museum and the Water Museum. The Avenida da Liberdade is within walking distance. Príncipe Real is close. The number 24 tram stops directly outside the hotel.
