It seems that every employee now has to put a focus on wellbeing and happiness over the results of the business. But is it possible to achieve both things? Can we keep employees happy and motivated while also getting the results that we desire? It’s certainly a difficult balance to get right but it is possible just as long as you follow a handful of fundamental tenets.

The Bigger Picture For You And The Employees

It’s not your employees’ responsibility to focus on the results, this is something that is purely for you. While you can have the best performance management software and the appropriate metrics in place, ultimately, the bigger picture for them is different than it is for you. But as a way to keep employees motivated, you need them to realise they will get out what they put in. This means that we should focus on the bigger picture in terms of the results but that’s only for us to worry about. Your employees need to focus on the bigger picture because they need to see that they are a pivotal cog in the wheel. This doesn’t just give them the motivation but it also gives them the opportunity to see the fruits of their labours.

The Importance Of Delegating And Offering Responsibility

Motivation can be purely to do with your employees wanting to make their mark. When we start to delegate it takes the pressure off us but it also gives employees the opportunity to thrive. Assigning responsibility should be a choice rather than something that they need to do. Offering responsibility rather than assigning it can result in better results but also improve the cultural components of the business. When you start to delegate rather than holding all the work for yourself this means that you are promoting a far better approach to equality in the workplace culture. When you begin delegating these important tasks to employees you will start to realise who wants to thrive and who wants to float along.

The Importance Of Perks, Breaks, And Celebrations

When we are struggling to keep our finances afloat this has a direct impact on employee morale. Providing perks and workplace luxuries doesn’t have to break the bank. By incorporating perks as a result of employees working hard to meet their individual goals can encourage competition in a friendly way but it also works towards employee morale. And when we start to celebrate individual achievements it doesn’t just boost their abilities to work better but it also helps them to feel that they are valued. It’s an incredibly simple thing but if your employees don’t feel valued and you don’t provide the perks in the right possible way you won’t have an employee stay there for long, or if they do they will not have an enthusiastic approach to their work.

Morale and motivation go hand-in-hand. We are seeing the paradigm shift towards a more holistic approach to working, especially now as many companies are being forced to work remotely. But as a result, we will have a better idea of what we need to do to improve motivation but keep our employees happy at the same time.
