LONDON, 24 September 2026 — EBM Newsdesk Analysis- Brad Adams

Bentley Motors has unveiled the all-new Torcal, the marque’s first fully electric model, in London, marking a significant step in the British luxury carmaker’s transition towards an all-electric future. Designed and handcrafted in Britain, the Torcal combines Bentley’s traditional emphasis on craftsmanship with new electric technology.

The model sits at the centre of a £350 million investment in Bentley’s Crewe site, which supports around 4,000 jobs and represents the company’s biggest move yet towards electrification. The investment has included a new production line within the oldest building on the Crewe site, dating from 1938, while Bentley has also invested in developing the skills required to manufacture an electric vehicle for the first time.

The Torcal has been designed, developed and built entirely in Crewe by Bentley’s 4,000-strong workforce. It will be produced alongside the company’s existing combustion-engine and hybrid models, with support from suppliers across the UK.

Performance figures underline the extent of Bentley’s attempt to combine electrification with the performance expected from the marque. The Torcal produces up to 888PS and 1,350Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Bentley to date. It can accelerate from 0-60mph in as little as 2.8 seconds, while its maximum claimed range is up to 375 miles, or 600km WLTP.

Charging has also been positioned as a key part of the car’s appeal. Bentley says the Torcal can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in under 20 minutes, addressing one of the central practical challenges facing premium electric vehicles as manufacturers compete not only on performance but also on usability and range.

The Torcal will initially be offered in two versions: the core model and the more sporting Torcal S. Alongside its electric powertrain, the car introduces new sustainable materials to Bentley’s interiors, including what the company describes as the world’s first 100 per cent Merino wool automotive fabric, developed in partnership with Somerset-based weaver Fox Brothers.

The significance of the Torcal therefore extends beyond the launch of another electric luxury vehicle. For Bentley, it represents a manufacturing transition taking place at the company’s historic Crewe base, while retaining the British production and craftsmanship that have traditionally defined the brand.

The investment also highlights the wider industrial implications of automotive electrification. Manufacturers are having to develop new production capabilities, retrain workforces and rethink supply chains while continuing to manufacture conventional and hybrid vehicles during the transition.

For Bentley, the Torcal provides a first major demonstration of how that transition can be incorporated into its existing manufacturing operation. With its combination of electric performance, long-distance range, rapid charging and new material choices, the model marks a new chapter for the company as it moves towards an increasingly electric product portfolio.
