Running a business is always going to take a team of people to ensure success. If you are lucky then you will have a team of skilled and professional employees who will know exactly what you need and when you need it, but sometimes when we are looking for suppliers of either goods or equipment, we don’t always know exactly what we need. We know what we want to achieve, but when it comes to hiring or purchasing equipment, then it can become confusing and expensive if you aren’t sure. Here are some tips for working with suppliers.

Technical

At some point in time, you are going to need to upgrade your warehouse operations, and you are going to need to look at replacing equipment, or purchasing new equipment, if you are looking for a loading ramp, for example, it may be that you aren’t necessarily going to need a permanent one, so looking at mobile loading ramps as an option it’s something that a supplier could help you with. Finding a supplier that is going to help you work through all of the options and suggest mobile loading ramps for your requirements, means that they know exactly what they are talking about. You may go to a supplier and ask for one thing, but find they will suggest something different, this means that they have identified that you don’t necessarily need what you think you do, and proves that they are taking care of your business needs rather than selling anything to you.

Open information

Taken a look at a supplier’s website and looking at how much information they are happy to share with you and the wider world about themselves and their industry, can help you understand exactly what you are dealing with, and how you can trust what they are saying. There is no such thing as a stupid question, and a good supplier will know that if you are asking questions and you are keen to learn about something, then they should help you with this in a positive way. This only helps the whole process in the long run, and Will help you feel more confident as well.

Communication

If you are phoning around suppliers and you are finding it difficult to get a response from them, then this is an indication that you may not be able to communicate with them if anything goes wrong. Business moves fast and if you are unable to communicate with a supplier about a potential issue then it is always advisable to move onto the next option. Building a good rapport with your suppliers can also mean that conversations run smoother and this is always a positive and time-saving method. Whatever you do make sure that you keep track of communications for more positive communication. This does work both ways so always be open with your suppliers as well.

Finding great suppliers can be time-consuming but ultimately it’s a worthwhile exercise to ensure smooth processes are in place
